Has it really been 9 months since I’ve posted photos here???

Well, I got a new Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro lens the other day and I’m soooo in love with it. I thought my old Sigma 70mm macro lens did a fairly decent job but the quality of this one just blows me away.

Now that spring is on its way, the bugs are starting to come out, flowers are starting to bloom, and I’m ready to get back outside and shoot. We have a few honeysuckle bushes on the side of our house so I’ve been hanging out there for the past couple days, shooting closeups of bees. I’m usually terrified of bees (and pretty much every other bug/insect) but these ones seem to be stinger-free so I’m not as worried about getting so close, yet it still makes me nervous when I feel something touch my arm or leg. I’m sure if the neighbors are watching, they’re having a good laugh at watching me take a few pics, swing my arms wildly to keep the bugs away, and then shoot some more.

So anyway, here are the bee pics I’ve taken so far. I think they’re really neat.

And some other icky bug I noticed.

Every year, we park downtown to watch the fireworks and we usually get stuck in traffic for about 30 minutes when trying to leave. But this year we decided to park in one of the downtown neighborhoods and walk 2 blocks to sit near the river, away from the main crowd. Turns out it wasn’t all that crowded and we didn’t have to wait on any traffic! We were home in about 5 minutes. Score!

And despite having no tripod with me this year, I think these shots turned out ok.

Whew! It certainly was a challenge trying to get this little girl to even look in my direction, much less at the camera. However, I did learn that when she gets fussy, all mama has to do is throw on a little Akon and this girl immediately calms down and a big smile appears on her face. How adorable is that!?
